Web site

How to view web site?

www.euparts.co.uk required Flash Playes http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

Do you have a website?

Yes: www.euparts.co.uk The website is updated nightly, so the website should always be correct every morning (unless the web host has had a technical problem). The site contains 7 photos of most vans together with a brief description of the known damage & other relevant details of each van. Also, you can "browse" the site in several different orders such as "Make & Model", "Price", Individual manufacturer (select "Ford" if you are only interested in Transit) etc. Your comments or suggestions are welcome in "Feedback".

ABI Category

What does Category A, B, C, D & X mean?

The ABI Category is an indication of the level of damage to a vehicle. There are four categories A, B, C & D (also some vehicles may be labeled category U to indicate Unclassified, or X to denote "unrecorded"). Category A indicates the most severe level of damage. This type of vehicle is crushed and not for sale. An example would be a "burn out". Category B vehicles must be broken for spares. These vehicles must not be repaired. Category C vehicles may be repaired (although they are uneconomic for the Insurance Company to have repaired). Category C cars and vans will require a Vehicle Identity Check Category D vehicles covers all other repairable vehicles. Category U indicates that the vehicle is uncategorised by the provider of the item. Category X indicates that the vehicle is unrecorded these vehicles not recorded as accident damaged. Normally these vehicles are stolen recovered, or have slight damage.

The VIC Scheme

What is the VIC scheme?

In 2003, the government introduced a number of measures aimed at reducing vehicle crime with campaigns "Crime - Let's Bring it Down" and "Secure your Motor". One of the initiatives was the Vehicle Identity Check (VIC) scheme. From April 2003 all Cat C cars (see below!!) notified to DVLA will have to be checked before they can be re-taxed or a V5C log book issued. The identity check will help to confirm that details of the car being returned to the road match the record held by the DVLA. The check is not to confirm if the car is roadworthy.

Which vehicles will need a VIC?

VIC scheme only applies to cat C cars that have been notified to DVLA as being cat C. Vans & bikes are excluded from this scheme. Please note that if the car has been damaged it must be substantially repaired prior to undergoing the VIC. VOSA (who inspect the cars) will not examine cars with sharp edges & the car must drive. VOSA will also inspect and pass a cat A or B car - despite the fact that these categories of cars have been already identified as unsuitable for future road use & sold specifically as suitable only for parts or scrap metal.

How do I put a vehicle through a VIC?

You must apply to the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (the new name for the Vehicle Inspectorate from April 2003) to carry out the VIC. You will need to complete an application providing information such as the VIN number and the registration; a copy of the V5 is not required. A fee is payable in advance (currently £36) and application forms are available from the following: Any VOSA test station; VOSA, Welcombe House, 91-92 The Strand, Swansea, SA1 2DH The VOSA Web site at www.via.gov.uk Once they receive your application and fee, VOSA will book an appointment for you. You can liase with individual test stations with regard to dates and times for inspection(s), and the tests should normally be carried out within days. You can have a prepaid account with VOSA, which may make this process quicker as there is no delay in fee payment/clearance.

What does a VIC involve?

The check will take approximately 30 minutes. It will involve comparing car details with information held by the DVLA - for example details of the car identification number, make, model, colour and engine number. The check will also compare the record of previous accident damage with evidence of damage repair. Other components may also be checked to confirm the age and identity of the car. The VIC itself is NOT a check on roadworthiness.

What happens when a vehicle passes the VIC?

When a vehicle passes the VIC the result will be stored on computer by the DVLA. The person who took the car for the VIC will be given written confirmation that it has passed the VIC on the day of the inspection. Only when a car has passed VIC can you apply for the V5 document. You can now tax the car. In the first three years of VIC, there have been hardly any VIC failures

What happens if the vehicle fails the VIC?

If VOSA cannot confirm the vehicle identity, it will fail the VIC. The police will be informed that the car's identity appears to have been altered. The vehicle will not be impounded and you have the ability to appeal this decision and must contact the VOSA to do so. In the first three years of VIC, there have been very few VIC failures.

Starts and drives

Does it run?

The description of `starts` or `drives` means that either it did so when we collected the vehicle OR someone (a customer, or possibly a member of staff) has started/driven it in the Sales Area. It may be that the car has been interfered with whilst out for sale & that it may not run now. `Drives` will usually mean that it moved backwards & forwards & should not be taken to mean that the car has been driven any distance whatsoever. All salvage is sold as seen & without warranty.

Tax and MOT

What about Tax and MOT?

Just about every Insurer checks MOT before they pay out on a claim. This means that the cars will have been taxed & MOT`d at time of theft/accident etc. BUT the tax is personal to the owner & is not passed to us & the Insurer usually retains the MOT, this being the only means that any Insurer has to make sure that a car is checked over before being used on the road again.

Warranty

Does it warranty?

CoD

Certificate of Destruction

The EU's new ELV Directive makes the last owner of a vehicle responsible for its disposal. Owners must be issued with a Certificate of Destruction (CoD) from an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) like Reclamet or they could face hefty fines or even end up in prison. The certificate acts as proof that a vehicle has been destroyed - meaning the owner's car tax and other obligations are at an end. It also shows that the car has gone through the correct recycling processes, which will help to reduce significantly the half a million tonnes of vehicle waste that is currently dumped in UK landfill each year. If you do not obtain a CoD, you could be liable, as the owner, for road tax. In addition if the car is subsequently abandoned, under the Clean Neighbourhood Act, 2005, a local authority is now able to issue a £200 fixed penalty for the dumping of a car and under the refuse disposal act, an illegal dumper could be fined up to £2500 and face three months in prison.

ELV

End of Life Vehicle Act

The End of Life Vehicle Act (ELV) came into force in 2003 with the effect that any vehicle reaching the end of its road-going life, must, by law, be taken to a licensed ELV site to be de-polluted and scrapped. To comply with the End of Life Vehicle Act, we have a state of the art depollution centre which is fully equipped to process vehicles. All oils and fluids are efficiently removed from the vehicle and stored for recycling in the manufacturing industry. Once this process is complete the vehicle is broken down into it's recyclable elements - plastics, steel and aluminium, before being used to make new products.

ATF

Authorised Treatment Facility

EU Parts Ltd is an authorised treatment facility, this means that EU Parts Ltd can depolute vehicles as ELV regulations state that vehicles must have tyres, catalytic converters, batteries, air conditioning gases, safety restraint systems and LPG tanks removed together with all the vehicles hazardous fluids such as engine oil, coolants, transmission and suspension fluids and shock absorber oils. We have all the necessary equipment and storage facilities to achieve this.
